“Career Day” for
Piqua Junior High 8th Grade Students 

Joseph Mahan, Commander of the Basic Police Academy for the Edison Criminal Justice Program presented a total of 6 programs to more than 120 8th grade students from Piqua Junior High School at Edison’s Career Day for PJHS.  Mahan, assisted by Nancy Neal, discussed the various aspects of Law Enforcement with the students, and included segments from one of Blessings’ programs which utilizes optical illusions to illustrate that things are not always as they seem.

Neal involved the students in interactive activities and encouraged them to think “outside the box.”  Mahan explained fingerprints to the students and showed each student their own handprint using techniques used by law enforcement officers. Through the use of magnetic powder each student was shown their own handprint being raised on a piece of paper, which then was given to them to keep as a souvenir.

“Spirit Day” 

Nancy and Joe were asked to return to Wilder Intermediate School to present their program for the third time
to 4th, 5th and 6th graders in four sessions throughout the day. 

This program, “Let’s Meditate,” has been well-received each year it has been presented.  Several students received a free CD and an organizer/binder for school as a door prize.  All students who participated were treated to a small gift bag.

The Blessings Foundation donated a “Stress Basket” to the Drama Department at Fairlawn Local Schools in Sidney to support their fundraising efforts. Congratulations to the winner of the basket, and to the recipient of the gift  certificate  for a complimentary series of classes!

Nancy presented customized Athletic Focus Programs to students of both the day and evening Basic Police Academy students.  These programs focused on not only the physical conditioning students receive, but also their skills in firearms training and subject control techniques.

Nancy and Joe presented an introductory program of stress management to students of both the day and evening Basic Peace Officer Academies. Joe is also the Academy Commander.
